##plugins.themes.bootstrap3.article.main##
Abstract
Spirometry is a fundamental test in the evaluation of respiratory mechanics, with a low cost and acceptable repeatability. Considering the importance of applying standardized procedures to perform spirometry, in 2006 the committee of pulmonary function specialists of the Chilean Respiratory Society (SER), published the first manual of procedures to perform spirometry. In 2014, reference equations for Chilean adults were published and in 2018 an update of the manual was published. However, in 2019 and 2022 ATS and ERS have published important changes both in the technique for performing spirometry and in its interpretation. The objective of this publication is to update the 2018 Chilean procedures manual to the national reality, adjusting it to the new standards and concept in spirometry both in pediatrics and in adults.
